Once again, I’m sharing my freelance income report. Let’s dive into October.
This was my third full month freelancing. I’m really excited by the progress this month.
First, let’s look at the numbers. Then I’ll break it down a bit more, and share my goals for November.
October 2015:
Income: $1520.86
Expenses: $57.67
Net Profit/Loss: $1,463.19
Expenses:
I purchased a Virtual Assistant course (from Gina Horkey–the awesome freelancer I took my initial Freelance Writing course from). And yes, that is an affiliate link. I encourage you to take the class if you’re thinking about freelancing!
I’m hoping to grow my VA business along with my writing one, and this course was full of really valuable information.
My other expenses were fees for either PayPal or Upwork.
Income
98% Writing
2% Virtual Assistant work
Diversity is important with a freelance career, so I’m currently working on some other ways to generate income.
So how did I make over $1500 my third month freelancing?
-I pitched over 120 times in September. I’m still reaping some rewards from that effort!
-I wrote a grade 4 ELA (English/Language Arts) curriculum (big project pay)
-I did my best work, and owned up to any mistakes I made, finding a way to fix them
-I offered fabulous customer support for my clients (which goes along with the previous one)
-I wrote everyday–improving my skills through practice
-I kept my expenses low
What are my plans going forward?
My November expenses are already much higher than October, which I’ll go into detail with next month. That means I need to earn more to keep my actual income the same. Here’s my plan:
-Pitch at least one time a day (M-F)–I need new clients!
-Pitch for both VA work and writing
-Find a long-term client (or two…) for writing
-Never give up (ie: Keep hustling!)
We’ll see what November brings. I’m hopeful that my freelance business will continue to grow. I’m really pleased with my growth so far, and thankful to the support of my family!

What an awesome October! Hope you continue to reap rewards from previous and current pitches. Thanks for sharing this info…so encouraging. For November, I’m hoping to complete Gina’s courses and start pitching for writing and VA work!

Thanks Diane! Best of luck to you as you finish up Gina’s course–it was so helpful to me. You can start pitching before you finish the class. Every pitch you send is great practice for the next one. You’ve got this!

Hello Lisa,
Thats a very awesome income report. You really performed very well in the month of October.
Many people are still struggling to be earning even half of what you earned and its not been so easy for them.
Keep it up Lisa, wishing you more big income reports.
