Take it away Mariah…
In the world of freelance blogging, having a niche can make a large difference regarding success in your career. Having a niche establishes you as an expert in a specific form of writing. When people see you as an expert, it means that you’ll be more likely to gain clients as opposed to being a generalist.
Let’s answer two questions to get this done.
What Is a Niche?
As previously explained, your niche is a specific area of expertise. It’s where you have experience and knowledge in this focused area of writing content. For example, you can be an expert in; health and wellness, business, legal, finances, etc. You are an expert in a certain field and create high-quality content in this form of writing.
Why Is Having a Niche Important?
Having a niche is very important as it will strengthen the way potential clients see you. Sadly, people are more likely to dismiss a generalist writer as opposed to an expert.
Think about it: If you needed writing specifically about finances and investment, would you go to a generalist writer or a finance writer? For those hiring, they want writers who specialize in the writing they need done.
If you’re to have blogging success, it’s critical you add a niche and declare yourself an expert to the world and potential clients willing to hire you.
Here are 10 niches for you to explore and consider.
1. Business and Tech
Business and tech have to be the most popular and in-demand niches. People always want to know about the latest in the business and technology world. They want someone to tell them what’s new, if they should buy a gadget or software and which companies are the best.
Furthermore, B2B is one of the most lucrative niches for bloggers. Many business leaders will pay nicely to have someone market their services in the form of blogging. You aren’t just blogging about their business, you’re marketing their business and making them look good.
If you think you can get into learning how the business and tech world works, this is definitely something to look into! There are many niches within business and tech to look into; such as, cyber security, gaming, PC software, 3D printing, computer science, and far more.

If there’s one thing people want quality advice about, it’s childcare and learning how to be a good parent. Before, parents would turn to printed books about how to care for their children. That’s completely changed since we’ve entered the digital age.
Nowadays, people will turn to blogs and videos for advice. There are many people online who’ve created “Mommy blogs” and fathers have also turned to creating “Dad blogs” as well for stay-at-home fathers. This is a highly popular niche, to say the least.

There are many bloggers who have managed to make their day-to-day life with parenting an online career and earn money from it.
3. Travel
The traveling niche is primarily aimed at millennials who have devoted their full finances to global traveling and seeing the world around them. However, plenty of older adults have taken advantage of this niche to help fund their traveling dreams while earning a profit from it as well.
It’s more than just taking photos of your travels. You also have to tell tales of your journey like a continuous story with fun little anecdotes to keep things interesting. Show off little but beautiful things in the world and use the right words to add to the moment. People will pay money to live vicariously through a world traveller or to have someone publicly promote their travel services.
