I spent too much time answering questions like: Mom, what's for dinner? Why do I have to unload the dishwasher today? I did it yesterday! Can I pick the bedtime story? I'm hungry, what's for lunch? What chores need done now? Can't I just go play? I'm hungry, what can I eat for a ...

An A-Z Guide: Q is for Quiet Time Is Your Friend

Have your kids outgrown naps? Most of mine have too! But, I still need time each day to focus on my business, so we started Quiet Time. After lunch each day, we take care of table chores. Then we do something to get our wiggles out. Once we're ready, we sit on the couch together and I read a chapter of a read aloud. Then it's time for a bathroom break and ninety minutes of quiet time. An A-Z Guide to Working at Home with Kids: E

What do your kids do if you leave them alone for a while? Depending on their ages, my kids find a variety of activities to engage them. Here are a few of the most memorable ways my little ones have ...

An A-Z Guide: K – Kick Comparisons

Are you wasting time making comparisons? If you are, it's time to knock it off! Kick your comparisons to the curb, and stop worrying so much about how well everyone else is doing. Comparisons kill your productivity. They take your mind off your goals, and slow your progress. You'll be so busy wondering why you aren't as good as this person, or as fast as that person. Your mind will get stuck pondering why you aren't making as much money as all those other people. And when your brain is ...

Strict daily schedules aren't for everyone. They certainly aren't for me. Here's what I do instead.

Why I Don’t Have a Strict Daily Schedule

As a freelancer, I've been asked a lot about my daily schedule. The questions range from "How do you get it all done?" to "What's a typical day look like for you?" Let me fill you in on a little secret. You won't find a strict schedule anywhere around this house. We do not thrive with schedules. Want to know why? With this many kids, something is going to go wrong. On a schedule, I always felt behind. My special needs child has frequent medical emergencies that need handled promptly. ...
