August 2016 Freelance Income Report

Another month of freelancing over. It's time to crunch some numbers and see how August turned out for me. Remember that I count my income as it comes in rather than when it's billed. I do the same with my expenses. August 2016 Income I earned $1445 in August. It wasn't as much as I hoped, since some of the income I was counting on didn't reach my account until September. When I closed the books, I had another $700 outstanding. So my numbers next month will be higher. But still, I ...

6 Tips for Freelancing While Pregnant

I started freelancing when my current youngest was six months old. We're now expecting baby number 8, and I wanted to share some tips I've discovered about freelancing while pregnant. 1. Dealing with Exhaustion Growing a baby takes a lot of energy. I've always noticed that I'm more tired while pregnant. Combine that with my oldest son who has a severe sleep disorder as part of his Angelman Syndrome, and it's a one-way ticket to the exhaustion line. While you probably won't be dealing ...

July 2016 Income Report from Freelancing

It's August, and time to crunch the numbers from July. Let's take a quick look at my income report for the past month. As a reminder, I count money as it comes into my account. I do the same with expenses. It's just easier for me to keep track of everything that way! Money Earned I earned exactly $1500 in July. Where did that money come from? The vast majority of my income was from writing. I also had some Virtual Assistance income. Also, the bank fee I complained about in June was ...

Reflections on a Year of Freelancing

I launched my freelance business in late July of 2015. The year has gone quickly, and I've learned much and grown a lot. I wanted to take a few minutes to share my reflections on a year of freelancing with you. But first, a quick history: Why I Started Freelancing When I started my career, my husband was driving over an hour each way to get to work. He was working a stressful job that required long days. He'd leave before the kids woke up, and sometimes wouldn't get home until well after ...

How I make satellite internet work for my freelancing. It is possible!

Freelancing with Satellite Internet

I love living in the middle of nowhere. The kids can be loud and run around outside. I get to raise plenty of animals. The smell after a rain is indescribable. Lots of privacy. But, as many perks as there are, there's one aspect of country living that's hard to deal with as a freelancer. Lack of internet options. You see, we don't have cable. Or DSL. Or a T-Line. Or any other form of fancy, unlimited high-speed internet available. I have exactly two options ...
