As I was updating my financial spreadsheet, I realized I never published a July 2017 income report. I got so busy publishing the 26 posts in my A-Z guide that it completely slipped my mind!
I know it’s almost September, and I’ll be publishing my August report next week. But, since I’ve been publishing these reports each month for almost two years now, I didn’t want to miss this one.
July 2017 Income
July’s income looks really good. But, it was almost entirely work I completed in June, finishing up my curriculum writing project.
I spent the month pitching, trying to ensure my freelance income didn’t dry up completely in August.
Here’s a look at my income breakdown:
Curriculum writing project: $3600
Virtual Assistant Work: $275
I earned a total of $4225.60 last month.
July 2017 Expenses
In anticipation of my lowering income, I’ve been cutting expenses where possible. My total expenses for July were $457.19.
Here’s what I spent it on:
- Payment on a course
- A few PayPal fees
- Gmail address for my business
- ConvertKit membership (<= aff. link because they’re awesome!)
- Subscriptions to Zoom, SendOwl (for selling my book), blog maintenance plan
- A new subscription to BoardBooster, (<= aff. link). I’m trying to boost my Pinterest traffic and BoardBooster has been easier for me to figure out compared to Tailwind.
What Worked in July
I had some pitching success in July, so my August wasn’t a complete bust. It was also the month I focused more on home things, redoing our annual meal plan, annual chore chart, and other rotational tasks.
What Needs Changed
I’ve been working on totally redoing my pricing structure and focus as a freelance writer. I love helping small businesses create blogs to improve their web presence, so I’m reworking my hire me page and creating blog packages.
At the advice of a woman in a group I’m part of, I’m also going to launch a direct mail campaign instead of emailing, just to try something different.
What’s Working for You?
Since my July was mainly focused on pitching, I’d love to hear your best tips in the comments!
